Inversion Jacket
12 ounce down jacket
any users?! It's pricey at 195, but 650-fill down has got to be toasty.
I wouldn't jump at the jacket. You can get a Feathered Friends Hyperion down jacket with an Epic shell and 800 fill for about $180. Mine is a large and weighs something like 14 oz, more than the 11 oz. list weight. Or, spring for an eVENT shell for another $20. I'm in the process of writing a review for the Hyperion, which I've been using since December and absolutely love.
I finally got off my arse and wrote the Hyperion review. It can be found in the Gear Reviews section.

Hey Chris- I dug your review. And for the record I also dig your trail journals and pictures. Keep it up.
That said, I would love to buy a Feathered Friends jacket! I was in their store in April and was blown away with the high quality of the products. And I kind of forgot they made jackets (!) as well as sleeping bags. I'll have to check out their site again.
Cloudveil was recommended to me by a good friend from out west. I also want to check them out. Sometime before the DC chill sets in I'll have something, hopefully. You're right about FF. Good stuff!
Thanks again for the review!

For that price you could purchase the nicer / warmer Western Mountaineering Flight Jacket or a Feathered Friends Hyperion Jacket. My memory is that the Flight is slightly lighter than the Hyperion... but you get more fabric choices with the Hyperion. The Flight and Hyperion are wonderful jackets. I have both friend but never bought one. They are just too warm for me, even in the winter given the reasonably mild weather in the central Sierras.

Thanks! I'll ve putting up a bunch of new stuff sometime soon, but the CDT account is going to have to wait for a while. Its all written, but I haven't posted it as I'm still mulling it over.
Would any of you know if the Patagonia Micro Puff pullover belongs in this group? It's not down, it weighs about 12oz, and the Patagonia website lists it on sale at $73 .

The Micro Puff does not compress as much as the others nor is it as warm...
since it is Polarguard Delta rather than 700-800 fill down. That said, the Micro Puff is the jacket I use in the winter (when I expect the temp to be consistantly below freezing). I am comfortable the Micro Puff down to around 0F wearing just a base layer, hat/gloves, softshell pants when sitting around, down to something like -20F when I am highly active.

650-fill down has got to be toasty.Note that fill weight has nothing to do with warmth, it's just an indicator of down quality and its ability to expand to fill a volume. Given the same article, higher fill down will provide comparable warmth at less weight with more compressibility. Probably a better indicator of warmth is the design of the article and how it distributes the down to improve warmth for weight.

I've just joined whiteblaze, and have been impressed with your gear reviews. So i figured i'd ask you what the best pack is for a superlight thru-hike. I have a lot of experience backpacking, but none of it was superlight. I just wanted a few suggestions.
Thanks,
Spencer

Hi Spencer, welcome. :)
I'd suggest you start a new thread with a title about light packs. I just happened to bump into your question here on this down jacket thread. Most people won't see your question here.
