KR--
Finishing on your birthday would be sweet, but keep in mind that the weather in Baxter can be pretty horrible by the 14th of October; in fact, in recent years, Katahdin has been CLOSED to hikers by that date due to unsafe conditions. Your chances of running into bad weather in Baxter go up dramatically after the 7th or 8th of October.
If possible, I'd try to finish up a bit earlier in October, even if it means starting your hike a bit earlier and/or not planning to finish on your birthday. A 14 October finish would be fun for you, but it might be inadvisable.

My mother's water broke the night of April 14th, but I lingered 'til the 15th... I may hit the trailhead at Springer on April 14th, but I'll linger 'til the 15th... (PS. Your income tax is due April 15th... Don't linger!)

bgone --- F SC
Will start alone late Mar.
Low miles to start but what does it matter...the journey is as important as the destination.
Why I want to hike the AT? Because its there; to attempt to do what so many try and fail and figure out why; because I love being outdoors; and most importantly to gain a sense of direction in my directionally challenged life. But first I must Be gone and so far Im having trouble getting off the first mountain.

Many prefer the Companion to WF, and the Companion supports the trail. Enjoy!

Paul - Male, 25
Athens, OH
Start Date (Harper's Ferry Northbound) July 1 then flipflopping back to Harper's Ferry to head south and finishing up in Springer Mid-Late November.
Number in Party: 1
Reasons: I have a 1 year contract which ends May 31st and my sister's wedding is in June and I can't stand another year to go by where I am not hiking on the trail.
I know it's far fetched, but if anyone is on a similar time frame I would never mind the company.
Look forward to a great season on trail. Take care and make it a great day.
Paul
This is the same route my husband and I plan to go next year, Harper's Ferry North, than back to Harper's and finishing south. How is it working for you?? Any suggestions? Good luck and hope all is well!
