Can anyone describe this section? Difficulty, water, etc?

Refer to Shuttle for Dick's Creek Gap thread. It's in the General forums. We talk about it as myself and one other guy are doing this section starting Nov 5.

New here. Thanks for the direction.

No problem, it's alot of up downs, figure 1.5 days to do it, just to be safe. It's about 16 miles.

I hiked from the Blue Mountain Shelter a few miles south of Unicoi Gap to Dicks Creek Gap on an overcast April day in 2003, my 5th day from Amicalola. It's a good climb up from the Gap, and another good climb up Tray Mountain. I ran out of steam coming out of Addis Gap, but after a good rest I finished up at Dicks Creek Gap 9 hours after I started. It's a nice trail and hopefully you will get a few good views.

I'm seriously considering hiking this part of the trail soon because it was a hike we had planned to make in Sept 2004, but couldn't because of an auto accident that left me with some serious BP'ing difficulties. I need to get out there and do this hike to get on with my BP'ing life - it is a closure thing.
My question: Are there any 'bail-out' side trails to drivable roads should I not be able to handle this section? Also, anyone care to comment on the tent camping options away from the shelter in this section?

Plenty of tent camping ops. No real bail out ops after Tray Mtn.

i'm planning on hiking this in a more gentlmanly fashion next week. Friday to Tray Mtn Shelter. Sat to the next shelter, and sunday to Dicks Creek Gap. There have been some suggestions for shuttles so I'm going to look into the options there. If Nove 4 works for you and you'd like to hike with a slow partner, drop me an IM and we'll be our own shuttle.

Thanks for the info. Wish I could make it on the weekend of the 4th as well, but I have grandkids bringing graeat-grandkids that weekend (one of the few things that I love more than hiking :D)
