Hi, I am starting this thread as a resource thread for those Do It Yourself repairs on hammocks. If you have a question about repairs to a hammocks feel free to reply. If you have done repairs, please post how you did your repair what the repair is so others can learn from it.
Broken ridgeline in a HH expedition
Tools
1.knife
2.Tape measure
Materials
1.Trotline cord or similar Rope/Cord
1. Cut a section of cord about 112''-110'' inches long.
2. Take those zip tied socks off one end of your hammock using the pointed end of your knife to release the zip tie so you can could reuse it.
3.you now turn your HH inside out
4.now cut or untie the ridgeline knot inside the hammock and tie the old ridgeline and the new ridgeline together with a fishermen’s knot (http://www.folsoms.net/knots/animations/fifgif.cgi?gifname=%27anifn.gif%27&title=Fisherman%27s%20Knot) and now pull the old ridgeline through the outside knot thus threading the new ridgeline though the outside knot and back in to the hammock.
5. Tie a bowline (http://www.folsoms.net/knots/animations/dspgif.cgi?gifname=%27anibl.gif%27&title=Bowline) to secure the ridgeline in the hammock
6.Replace the sock on the end of the hammock
7.Rpeat steps 2-6 on the other end
My ridgeline came out three inches longer than the suggested ridgeline length. (http://www.hennessyhammocks.com/comparisonchart.htm) Now how much three inches makes in the way it hangs I do not rightfully know, But maybe someone around here does.
