View Full Version : Sleeping Bag for SOBO thru-hike
What degree rating should a sleping bag for a SOBO thru-hike beginning mid-June be? I know that most companies' ratings differ, and that factors such as the presence of foot-vents and full-length zippers make bags rated for cooler comfortable in warmer outside temperatures.
Thanks
Starting in mid June, you will probably want a 30 or 35 degree bag. The only chance for cold weather will be in the White Mountains about 4 weeks after you start, and that will be in early to mid July.
But, in mid June, there will still be plenty of bugs, and high water and cold water from the spring runoff. If possible, consider delaying your start another couple of weeks until July 1
Im planning on using a western mountaineering caribou mf. Its rated to 35*. Im planning on a MId-june start date SOBO in 2006. I also have a pad, thermals, and bag liner to supplement. But I may only need them for a short time in NH and maybe again in SNP.:D
