how much aqua mira does it take to complete a thru-hike, for example how long on average does one batch (two solutions... or two droppers) just wondering if any past thru-hikers used aquamira on their thru-hike. I got three weeks out of mine on my nols trip...is that about right on the trail or is it different. any feedback would be appreciated.

I started my hike in 2003 with 6 sets of AquaMira. Had 1 set with me and the rest in my bounce box. I bought 2 sets along the way when it was more convenient than breaking into my bounce box. When the hike was over I had one full set left and a partially used set. What I found is that all "drops" arend't created equal (either that or there was more solution in Part A than in Part B) because I often ran out of one before the other.

I used AquaMira only for the water that went into my 1.8 Liter Platy and my 20oz gatorade bottle. For cooking I captured water from a stream and boiled it. There were also a lot of times when I just trusted the water and drank it right from the source.

If you want to "save" some you can cut the dosage in half and double the treatment. I do that for water I'm going to treat over night (to be ready in the morning).

Ex. Do 3 drops (A/B) per liter and wait 40 minutes (rather than 15).

After reading this I realized that I should probably have qualified my earlier post. I used the AquaMira at full strength = 7 drops Part A/B per Liter

I think I went thru something like 4 or 5 sets, roughly about 1 a month. I used the full 7 drops usually, although I would cheat occassionally on larger doses. Keep in mind I hiked the AT starting early and finishing early (july 31). It was a relatively cool, and very wet year so i didnt drink nearly as much water as the average thru who starts in april and sloggs thru the heat for months.

Way better than a filter tho.
