Aloha!
I have been lurking for months...yep one of those looky loos:D
Finally with both my New HH and just arrived Siam Hammock
I thought it was time to post.
So far I am loving the second liner to the Siam where I can place a pad with no problem. I just came back from camping 5 days with the HH Explorer Deluxe, rained the whole time. Not one drop on me :clap
But I found the bottom opening part to cause a slight bump in my sleep and felt a tad bit enclosed. Otherwise I love being able to enter and exist the bottom of the bag. The MAIN reason why I bought it.
I am wondering if I am sleeping wrong in the HH? My regular Mayan Hammock hung in the backyard...I simply turn to the side and stretch out.
I found I could not do this with the HH without having my feet go up against the netting.
Brah, I no know a thing about hammocks, but I love Hana. Aloha :welcome

Thanks Nean for the Welcome
Yes..I do not have a lot of choices for any thru-hikes but plenty of hiking trails ending in waterfalls all around Hana.

What's wrong with the foot of your bag pushing against the netting?

HI Jeff,
While two things really...I am afraid I will rip it open and if you are against the netting the bugs can bite!
I have not tried sleeping in a bag as yet...but it did get cold for here, on my last camp out. It dropped to about 35-38 degrees and the tradewinds blowing 15 mph with average gusts up to 30 mph off the ocean with rain it got a bit nippy.
I am truly thinking about using a sleeping bag this weekend.

Unless you're really pushing on it, it shouldn't rip. Hennessy makes a quality hammock, and I haven't had any problems when my feet edge up that high. I usually hang my foot end 2-3" higher than my head end, which makes my body slide closer to the head end so my feet have more room.
The bugs thing makes sense. A quilt or bag should protect your feet well enough if you're using one, though.
hi hana
welcome to the world of happy hammock hanging:cool: neo

Yes Jeff I am very impressed with the quality of the Hennessy Hammock and doing a comparison test this weekend between the two...Siam and Hennessy. I like that Tree Boat one with the cozy underpad...but think it may be over kill for here in the islands.
So far from one trip with the HH and backyard hangin' with the Siam....they are both well made, and there is something to say about simply unzipping the side and reaching for things stored below :)
HI Neo
Thanks for the Welcome
I am not really new to Hammocks...just camping in them in the rain and wind.
I think I may need a pad.
Any ideas of that large Oware one?
Is it worth it...or a simple two CCF Blue one from K-Mart or Wal*Mart?

Going on a Hike/Camp with the Siam and HH again for just 4 days in the Kipahulu area also known as Seven Pools.
If anyone is interested I'll let ya know what I thought of the Siam holding up in the rain and cold for here. brrrrrr yep 40 is feeling cold...hee hee

I'm going out this weekend with the Scouts. It's spota to be in the low 30's with freezing rain and maybe even some snow. Gee, I might even get homesick!! ( I grew up in MI and Western NY)

Hi Joe,
Well I hope you faired better than I did... I woke up on the ground with lava rocks cutting into my back. Wondered why I was feeling uncomfortable :S New hammock set up and wow did it stretch!
Not sure how cold it got but we did have a great rain storm come thru and winds with gusts up to 50 mph...the tents were flying in the camp ground area. Sad to say I had to wake up the family and climb in a tent! :P
It was just raining far to hard for me to deal with the hammock and rehang it...pitched on a rather steep side of the hill. I just did not want to deal with any centipedes...and get wet :D
Hope you faired better
