Can anyone recommend a good pair of very light weight collapsible hiking poles?

I have been looking at this from Gossamer gear

http://www.gossamergear.com/cgi-bin/gossamergear/Lightrek-Trekking-Poles.html

but the are not collapsible, and if I get them sized for my height, they will be much too tall to use as a center pole for my tarptent. I could use them as poles and carry the tarptent center pole I suppose, but would rather get collapsible poles because they travel easier on buses/planes.

Titanium Goat is selling "take-down" carbon fiber poles (http://www.titaniumgoat.com/poles.html)

Also new to the redesigned poles is the option of a take down version.
With a single joint and internal ferrule, with compression fitting, you can
have your Goat poles break in half for easy transport.

They would work for your needs of transportation but wouldn't necessarily help the 'center-pole' issue...

Depends on your definition. My latest, Leki Ti Ultralight Makalu CoreTecs, weigh 16 oz. for the pair. They feel even lighter.

They also get under the 100 dollar barrier.

Hey Frosty. Coleman sells very high quality collapsible poles at a very reasonable price. I've had mine for 2 years....no problem!

Go to Coleman.com

Go to Coleman.comYeah. I have a pair of EMS poles I've been using for about 10 years now. Very strudy, but very heavy (about 10 ounces each). Priced at $13, I imagine the Coleman poles are even heavier. (Good-Cheap-Light, pick any two)

I was looking for lightweight ones, aiming for about half the weight of the ones I have now. The Gossamer Gear ones are 2.6 ounces each, and the Titanium Goat ones are 4.7 ounes each, but they are collapsible.

Poking through my old gear bin, I found the tent pole that Henry Shires shipped with teh tarptent, and it is pretty light, so I could carry that and the ultralight gossamer gear ones, but I'd still have the problem of transporting the poles on public transportation. Maybe I could lash them together so they look like a crutch :)

Take a look at Pacer Poles from ULA-Equipment. $125 a pair with a very comfortable ergonomic grip. I never would have made it off the Slide Mountain-Wittenburg trail without them! ITBS can be quite painful going downhill.
