I tried this out for the first time today. It is supposed to have the most protein of any grain. Quinoa is a small seed, it looks like sesame seeds.

I cooked it with my usual rice flavorings:

1 cup Quinoa
1/8tsp dried garlic
1/4tsp dried onion
1/4tsp salt
1/2tsp cumin
1/2tsp chicken buillion
1/2tsp italian seasoning
2 cups water

Bring to boil, simmer 15 minutes.

The consistency is like maltomeal cereal (cream of wheat) but with a little crunch to it. The flavor is excellent, although I did not notice any Quinoa flavor over the seasonings that I added. The texture is good, it has a little crunch to it to make chewing it interesting. It is not gooey or soft, it has a nice texture to it, almost nutty.

If I had to choose between brown rice, potatoes, pasta and quinoa for the filler part of a meal, I think quinoa is the best tasting of all of them. The good part is that it has lots of protein, and may be a complete meal when eaten with fruit and vegetables.

If you are looking for a good tasting, high protein dried food, give quinoa a try.
