I've got a pc of sil nylon I've been using for a ground cloth with a tarp setup.
The problem is I usually wind up off of it. I'm going to put a few beads of silicon on it but was wondering if anyone had ever attached grommets to this material? It would be great to stake it down with some homemade alum U stakes. It's light stuff and I don't really want to tear it up.
Also I was thinking of hemming a foot pouch for the bag to go in. I've seen that done with Tyvek. How hard is it to sew sil nylon and could you use a regular machine? What about thread? Moisture from the bag breathing?

Sil-nylon (to me) is too slippery to be used as a groundcloth. I use tyvek and have no problems although it is a bit heavier.
The slippery-ness of the sil-nylon also makes it a problem to sew. Even good sewers have a hard time with sil-nylon as it slips so easily. but it is awesome stuff in most instances.
(yes, you can use a regular machine)

Grommets might work, but you could also put webbing loops on the corners for the stakes. I'd be worried about condensation in the footbag, but you could always sew a square of DWR to the bottom to make the pocket.

Just use a very small needle and guide it through very carefully and it's not that tough for what you're talking about.

Grommets will tear out of silnylon. Sew on pull/stake tab loops with a reinforced stich and it should perform adquately.
