I just picked up a Snow Peak Mini Solo cookset. So far I like it a lot. I love that I can store a small fuel canister inside along with a plastic cup and my Giga Power stove.

I'm still going back and forth on alcohol stoves. Anyone know of a container that will hold alcohol and fit in the Mini Solo pot like the canister does? I think one that holds eight or ten ounces will fit in about the same space.

I checked around REI and Hudson Trail for something, but none really worked. I need something wide and squat.

Thanks.

Hey Patrick,

I made mine from a small plastic peanut butter jar that I retrofitted with a homemade gasket. Holds@ 10 oz. and works great.

Skid,

Awesome, thank you. Try to respond a little faster next time. It's crap that I had to wait like seven minutes.

Just sorta worked out that way( I had just logged on ).:D
BTW, Make sure you test the gasket to make sure it doesn't leak-but you probably knew that!

That would violate my policy of learning things the hard way. I didn't burn these eyebrows off by thinking ahead.

I'm going to take a sewing break at 10:00. I'll head out and pick up a jar. I'll be eating peanut butter out of a baggie for the next week.

See if you can find an 8 oz water bottle. I plan to use one for my fuel and olive oil. (different shape). I found mine as give aways at a trade show.

Most people carry fuel in an outside pocket. That way, when it leaks, it doesn't get into everything in your pack.

Suggestions for containers: Most use a plastic soda bottle. Some use the bottle that gas stabilizer comes in.

Swimming pool return gasket( trimmed slightly to fit ). I'm pretty sure an auto parts store would sell rubber or even cork gasket material that should work fine. I just had the pool gasket lying around the shop. Never leaks, ever, not a drop.

I wanted to update this thread.
The gasket eventually leaked, although just a bit. It appears that the rubber shrunk from continuous contact with the alcohol.

I am going to try a lid from a "Georgia Corn Whiskey" jar that will fit the PB jar as a next test. I just have to drink the liquor first. :D

If that fails, I will try a cork or paper gasket.

Anybody have some other good ideas?

I tried two little 4 oz naglene bottles the kind backpackinglight carries.
They fit well in my MSR Titan not sure about the Snow Peak though.
I am thinking about getting these...only I do not need the bag

I simply like the little square naglene bottles and have not found them anywhere else :(

I have never had one of those bottles (round 4oz ) leak...but I am now using the Little Nipper Platypus container with the little red nozzle instead. Store it on the side pocket, after reading of all the fuel leaks and such from others.

Hey Hana,

You might call the guy who owns that site and ask if you can buy the bottles without the case. Binks is a good guy and usually tries to help. He also has a store in Tenn.

That kit (http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com/store/subcategory.asp?categorysubcategorycode=191) is on Nalgene's website, as are the bottles themselves (http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com/store/subcategory.asp?categorysubcategorycode=13). IIRC, the purchases I've made direct from Nalgene are free shipping (of course I'm on the continent).
