Hi Everyone.
I made a section on my website for people to post their homemade gear ideas. It's called the "Gear Laboratory" and will be a compilation of articles to share with others. It doesn't necessarily have to be something you invented; it could be a piece of gear your modified or an idea to use a piece of existing gear in a new way. Please contribute your ideas. All you have to do is email me from the "contact me" link on my website and I'll publish it(please attach text in a word document). There are only a few articles so far but this will give you an example of what it will look like: http://www.freewebs.com/jasonklass/thegearlaboratory.htm
Cheers and as always, thanks for your support.

Jason,
Cool site, I spent sometime there. I do have a question about your Super cat stove, I have tryed them with mixed results, I like the idea of the primming wick. In viewing your pictures I noticed a ring on the bottom of your stoves. What/how have you added a ring or another top to the bottom of the stove? OR I do not have the "right' type of can?
I looked on the wings site but did not see anything that looked close.
I was going to e-mail you but thought someone else might have the same question.

Hi Sandy,
Great question. First I should state that the stove is not my design. It's Jim Wood's (jwbasecamp.com). Also, the wick Idea is Tinny's at minibulldesign.com. He uses different material and his is permanently bonded to the stove but the basic idea to wrap something around the stove to prime it rather than using a priming pan was his. That being said, I like the fact that my version is replaceable.
As for the base, that's not my idea either. Well, it was, but then I saw that someone already thought of it and posted it on the internet. Another one of those "thought I thought of it first" moments. I think it was either Hikertoo ot BSTWO. I honestly can't remember (if someone knows, please elucidate us). The base is nothing more than the top of another can cut off and sild on to the bottom of the stove. It really helps with stability and doesn't add much weight. I have yet to tip it over and I think it actaully adds to the overall durability of the stove by reinforcing it. Actually, Jim Woods is perfecting a new stand for his stove and I'm really looking forward to reading the article.
When you say you get "mixed results" what do you mean? Also, are you using the 15 and 10 or 20 and 10 jet pattern? I hope you used this template: http://zenstoves.net/Templates/TemplateSuperCat.GIF
Jason,
The mixed results were: The flame never stayed steady, it kinda flickered with noise. I never got the super cat to perform as I have seen posted(here and else where)
I'll have to print the template and give it another go, I did build 3 different supercats, I tried the screw driver for a hole punch and I also drilled the holes. But I don't rember how many holes where used.
BTW, My attemps at the ION type are not as effecent as I have seen reported. They all work, just not what i'd call great.
I am using a 'pepsi' can style with no pot stand and a 'anti graviy' 3 cup pot. This combo works well.
I do like building stoves and dreaming of a thru-hike(2014 or 2015) :)
Thanks for any help

Sandy-
Use the template like I said and it should be better. But I'm wondering, what size holes are you drilling? If they're not the right size you will get that "sputtering" effect.
