What were some of the things you craved while on the trail? I put this in the cooking section, but it could be food, activities, people.... Share your stories.

I don't know why because don't eat it all that much. I never make it at home, I can't remember the last time I went to KFC. But after a few days hiking I'm thinking about KFC fried chicken. Dark meat, the thigh, extra crispy, greasy biscuit and sides of mushy radioactive orange mac'n'cheese and their wallpaper paste mashed potatos with a gallon of instant brown gravy. Horrid stuff. So recently I was driving back from a weekend hike and aiming for the KFC in Dahlonega, right there on the corner where the road turns. And the KFC was gone! I mean really gone, the lot where it was located was a pile of rubble with a bulldozer sitting on top. I almost cried. Mouse 02-21-2006, 08:07 My big discovery was chocolate whole milk. It is SOOOO thick and rich and one quart has nearly 1000 calories! I remember dragging into Great Barrington all drenched and mosquito-bitten and ready for a motel and hot shower. One quart of that stuff in the gropcery parking lot and I hiked all the way to the AT and on to the next shelter! I loved the stuff! :banana JojoSmiley 02-21-2006, 08:10 Fresh milk, orange juice and corn chips, usually Torengo type or Pringles if I couldn't find the corn chips. allie 02-21-2006, 08:47 Dances with mice...you might not have wanted to eat there if you knew why they closed it down, let's just say nobody knew Dahlonega was famous for prostitutes and drugs...but you can find some ribs and mexican in that same place now! allie 02-21-2006, 08:49 By the way on this topic....On long section hikes I crave a good ol' juicy steak and potato camich 02-21-2006, 08:52 Beer and pizza:banana :sun ;) Seeker 02-21-2006, 09:31 fresh milk, real eggs, and fresh fruit/veggies. neo 02-21-2006, 11:19 chinese food, pizza, icecream, catfish, pancakes, ect, ect, ect,: cool: neo fivefour 02-21-2006, 11:21 pizza, beer and anything sweet. xXIndyXx 02-21-2006, 11:25 Fresh milk, orange juice and corn chips, usually Torengo type or Pringles if I couldn't find the corn chips. Most ice (in fast food restaurants anyway) is highly contaminated by E. Coli bacteria. Yuck! There is one more reason to avoid McDonalds, as if we needed another reason. http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/Health/story?id=1641825&page=1 And Jack, don't you prefer baseball on the radio (unless in a watering hole)?
