What were some of the things you craved while on the trail? I put this in the cooking section, but it could be food, activities, people.... Share your stories.

Visit any town with a Dairy Queen and you will discover what many of us crave. Ice cream.

The food I began to crave most after a while was fresh green vegetables.

Fried chicken. I don't know why because don't eat it all that much. I never make it at home, I can't remember the last time I went to KFC. But after a few days hiking I'm thinking about KFC fried chicken. Dark meat, the thigh, extra crispy, greasy biscuit and sides of mushy radioactive orange mac'n'cheese and their wallpaper paste mashed potatos with a gallon of instant brown gravy. Horrid stuff.

So recently I was driving back from a weekend hike and aiming for the KFC in Dahlonega, right there on the corner where the road turns. And the KFC was gone! I mean really gone, the lot where it was located was a pile of rubble with a bulldozer sitting on top.

I almost cried.

My big discovery was chocolate whole milk. It is SOOOO thick and rich and one quart has nearly 1000 calories! I remember dragging into Great Barrington all drenched and mosquito-bitten and ready for a motel and hot shower. One quart of that stuff in the gropcery parking lot and I hiked all the way to the AT and on to the next shelter! I loved the stuff!

Fresh milk, orange juice and corn chips, usually Torengo type or Pringles if I couldn't find the corn chips.

Escargo. Usually on day 10, no reason for it, I have only had snails ONE time. The craving is almost overwhelming.

And, at about day 14 or so, raw oysters. Have had oysters often, so somewhat understand this craving. It to is almost overwhelming.

Evidently you haven't seen the special that revealed that the water in restaurant toilets is generally cleaner than the water in the ice. Most ice (in fast food restaurants anyway) is highly contaminated by E. Coli bacteria. Yuck! There is one more reason to avoid McDonalds, as if we needed another reason. http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/Health/story?id=1641825&page=1

And Jack, don't you prefer baseball on the radio (unless in a watering hole)?
