I just received my copy of AT Journeys and the letters to the Editor contains several letters from WB regulars (Tha Wookie & Bob "Grampie" Fowler) as well as a letter asking "Who is Miss Janet?" Check it out!

Of course, you have to be a member of ATC to receive the magazine, so if you're not already, you can join online at the following link;

You don't have to be a member to buy a a single issue.

In my latest Outside magazine they mentioned Whiteblaze as a great resource for AT hiking. Is this common? I don't ever remember seeing Whiteblaze in Outside. I know this site is the best for the AT, but didn't know Outside would drop free advertising. It was great to see.

Geez, I wouldn't know what's in Outside these days. In that I'm not interested in heli-skiing in British Columbia, llama-trekking in Peru, or buying a nine-hundred dollar storm shell, I don't read the magazine much these days.

But if they plugged Whiteblaze, that's fine.

I know what your talking about Jack, I usually pass up those articles knowing that I will never visit areas like that, but they do have great stuff on other outdoor enthusiast. I also got a tremendous deal; Outside, Backpacker, and NG Adventurer for $20 a year. Great reading, at a great price.

Yep, NG Adventure helped me decide I'm going to Peru, summer `07.

Once, out of boredom, I bought a subscription to Outside. Big waste of money. Articles about places I would never go (yay. Another 5 page spread about Nepal), trips I could never afford ($8500 for a week? why don't I just hike the AT. Twice), and one exacrable "sex" issue. I couldn't wait for it to run out. I've had better bathroom reading with a MountainGear catalog.

But the first "relationships" article in Journeys, the one after the letters and before the chestnut study(sorry, don't have my copy with me at the moment), sounded alot like a big corporation preparing it's employees to be royally screwed.
Talking of bringing in/ forming new partnerships and the inevitable strife it causes. Just reminded me of a letter from the CEO of a large corporation I used to work for right before they started making subtle shanges that were great for the company but totally sucked for the workers. Kinda like putting a frog in a pot of mild temp water then putting it on the stove...he never saw it coming.....

Had to read your post twice, as I've seen too much stuff just like you're describing right here on WhiteBlaze. Elephants, ocean turtles, glaciers, Alaska, Nepal, and untold non-AT scenes forced down my throat on home page pics.

I have found I really don't have to look at what I don't want to. I figure some folks are interested and that's fine with me.

I caught a quick look at the article on Hot Springs (was this the new issue?) Big article about some clean cut couple getting married that I passed over but the Hot Springs article was tiny; mentioned a hwy that once made it popular:confused: . Didn't mention Elmers or the Cody house in the places to stay (can't remember if the Duckett House was) and a nice picture of a Rafting Co. sign, but not the outfitter. Some great qoutes from Laurie at the ATC, but otherwise no one I talked to had recieved a call or knew of the artical. I was not impressed, not even a little.

I noticed these missing as well, and I haven't even been there yet. Just all the good things I've heard, I was suprised they weren't included.

Looks like you guys are talking about two different magazines, Outside and A T Journeys. Outside has nothing to do with the A T; A T Journeys is rapidly drifting away also. Human interest weddings, horses, solicitation, etc. I, for one, wish we had the old ATN back.

Mine expires in the middle of my hike. I'll take a look at the org. when I get back.

My memory served me wrong, as it seems to do much too often. Outside was brought up because I said Whiteblazed was mentioned in their last issue. The Whiteblaze mentioning was actually in Backpacker. Sorry for the error.
