Trail: Bear Mountain East
Date Hiked: 01/28/06
Conditions: Warm January Day. The AT was muddy and no problems hiking the AT to the summit. The Major Welch trail had about a ½ of snow. There was some ice.
Special Required Equipment: Bring water, map & compass, snacks, camera, and lunch.
Comments: Saturday was one best days to be out. The Major Welch was slippery. There was no ice on the Hudson River. First AT Hike of the year. Parked at the Bear Mountain parking lot, hiked the AT up to the Perkins Tower on Bear Mountain. There are several picnic area’s on top. Climbed down the Major Welch trail to Heissian Lake. Walked around the lake and then to the merry go around.
