Trail: Bear Mountain West
Date Hiked: 02/17/06
Conditions: A stormy February Day. There was a rainy morning with a fast moving storm There was patches of snow on the side trails of the AT. It was February but felt like a early spring.
Special Required Equipment: Bring water, map & compass, snacks, camera, and lunch.
Comments: Friday was one an ok day to be out. Started at the Anthony Wayne Rectation Area. Started on the AW ski trail to the fawn trail. At this point I hiked the AT to the summit of Bear Mountain. Crossed the Seven Lakes Drive, then to Perkins Memorial Drive. Hiked to the tower and hiked threw the picnic areas. Hiked partly down the east side walked on an old road to Perkins Memorial Drive. Continued the hike on the At to West Mountain. There was no ice on the Hudson River. The AT joined the Timp Torne trail. This was a great ridge hike; it was a windy afternoon. Hiked down the ridge to a a ski (bike) trail and then out, Second AT Hike of the year.
