haha, I can't imagine waking up to that. On our thru hike we always joked about things that would instantly 'end our thru hike' for example, if you woke up and saw a rat on your chest or something, you would say thru hike over, pack up and go home. We never did but I think if this happened to me, I would have to go home. I'm tough, not that tough.

Well I guess If I was prepared for it, but we weren't really prepared for anything

Been there, done that. Accept that I had the pleasure of sleeping on the picnic table since the shelter was already packed. <shrugs> It wasn't that bad to me.

Oh, man. You know what...I've changed my mind. I don't want to thru-hike anymore. Someone tell lobster...he'll be thrilled someone quit before they started. ;)

Oh second thought, it would be a shame to have all my gear go to waste...I better stick to my original plan of leaving on 4/15. :) ;)

Looks like its cold enough that the campers will be able to shake it off no problem. I'd trade a 33 deg and rain day for those conditions any day. Winter backpacking rocks. :cool:

This should be the poster for "Check the weather before you go out" or "Who says a three season tent won't work" or "Help, get me the hell out of here". No wind wall were necessary, there was only blowing snow. Digging out was only required if you wanted to get out.

I have an old Eureka tent with hoops like that, bought it in '88. I think it is a little smaller. Mine was definitely 1 person, I can't tell how many yours could fit. It was generally unaffected by strong winds being so low to the ground. Must have been some trip, were you high up in the Sierras?

The pics before and after Mr. Luong's at the terra site are also amazing. It looks like they set up in an area that didn't have snow in the immediate surroundings, but then were inundated. It'd be interesting to hear his description of the trip. Maybe he could be invited here to talk about it.

I apologize to the owner of the picture and to everyone else here at WB. When I returned from my PCT ATTEMPT I failed to change back passwords. I have several older boys who use this site along with my wife. I believe that my oldest son pulled the stunt, put it doesn't matter. Passwords changed, they'll have to get their own. As soon as I get my scanner hooked up and figured out I will place some pictures of snow conditions taken in Kings Canyon NP back in the 90's. Again my apologies, I personally have been out of town for several days and I need to figure out what else they have been up to.

Found out a family friend was also using this site with my pw.
I've stopped it with change of passwords, this site is the least of my worries, I'm trying to straighten out some major problems on a couple of other web sites.

I was looking around in the WB photo gallery today and came across this amazing pic. Sobo's usually get to avoid scenes like this. Have fun guys and good luck!

Hmmmm ... if I understand correctly, this isn't your pic, so it isn't your fault that it's posted in raw BMP photo format. Still, this little 700x400 pixel photo is almost a meg in file size. It should have been less than 1/20th to 1/40th that size and in jpg format. Hopefully, I think, the new photo article contains a discussion of the proper etiquette for posting photos on WB.
