If you talked about this I missed the thread.
Was any of the original trail still visible? Would be nice if the original start was maintained as a historical site even if there is no public access.
How were you able to obtain access?

After the GATC's annual meeting which was their 75th Anniversary in October '05, the club did a hike up the gravel road to the summit. I was a speaker at the meeting, so I joined them on the outing. The GATC received permission from the landowner to be up there. The obelisk that had once been up there has been moved - I believe to Jasper, GA - and there are communications towers up there now. I didn't see any old trail. The highlight was a view from a wooden platform built by the landowner. The views into the valley were great.
