I bought an Evernew Ti pot on Ebay and an older generation Vargo Triad came with it. I fired it up and after figuring out it was not much more than a chafing pan burner, considered throwing it away. I liked the pot holder design so I thought I'd attempt to modify it for HEET utilization. I drilled a 5/64" hole in the center of the cap. After filling the fuel cup with 1oz of water. I marked the level and 1/8th inch above that I drilled another 5/64" hole at three equal distances around the fuel cup. I then placed the Evernew pot on the pot holder arms and bent them down until there was only a 3/8" clearance between the top of the fuel cup and the pot bottom. Before priming the Vargo, I placed a piece of folded paper towel under th fuel cup and put just enough HEET on the towel to soak it. With 1oz of HEET I boiled 2 cups in 4 minutes without a wind screen and kept it at a rolling boil for another 9.5 minutes before the fuel expired. The paper towel under the cup kept it insulated from the bottom but still acted as a good wick to prevent rapid consumption of the priming fuel. This is almost 100% better performance than I got with the stock Triad burning denatured. Hope this will encourage someone to get their old Vargo out of the junk drawer.
