Hi Everyone:

I just wanted to let everyone know that I had a bad experience this week with Seattle Fabrics. I ordered some mesh via the Internet on 3/8, and it took them 8 days to get it shipped out. During this time, I heard nothing from them, until the USPS notified me that package was coming. Then for 2 days, whenever I would try to track the package, the USPS tracking system had no information. When I called the company to complain, I got told that "they say on their website that it might take 5 business days to get the product shipped". I guess that this happens to all companies some times, but next time, I think I'll order from someone else !

I ordered from this company already and had the goods in less than 5 days. From WA to PA, i considered that pretty good. You must've caught them at a bad time.

The USPS tracking system is not really meant to track packages. All it can do is to tell you that is was shipped and that is was delivered. It isn't SF's fault about that, but they should have been able to get it out faster than that. I have been to their store and it isn't like it is a huge place and the doors busting out with walk-ins.

The USPS tracking system is terrible; it ususally sits at the initial and useless status message until about three days after you get it, at which time it finally changes to 'Delivered'. This has nothing to do with SeattleFabrics, except that they chose to ship via VSPS as opposed to UPS/Fedex/DHL, proably saving you money in the process. If they didn't, you'd probably complain about the shipping costs.

It's a small retail fabric place, not some giant company with huge warehouses and automated systems where, without human intervention, they can get your order out the same day; they have to measure and cut fabric, and probably have limited staff.

My experience has been that they're helpful and get things out in a perfectly reasonable amount of time.

Seattle Fabrics has always been good to me. Good prices, selection, nice website. Shipping time has been reasonable.

Bad experience trying to buy from them

I want to buy some material from them and the Sales person-( retail sales) that I emailed with details of what I need. She ask for a phone number to contact me and I emailed it- never got a call. I emailed again , once more ask for help on Nylon Taffeta - WP coated or similiar type of material , same person emailed me back could not offer any help or recommendations. I gave up with this company. I contact other companies, with more knowledge of what they had, that I could use for my project.

Sorry, my 2 cents on this subject

Actually, they charged me $10.42 for a package that couldn't have weighed more than a pound, and they weren't at all apologetic about the delay, either. I can understand the shipping cost, but the delay in having it picked up by the shipper is what frosts me.

Try quest outfitters at

http://www.questoutfitters.com/

I am new to the gear making field and was ordering stuff to make a bivy sack. The lady who took my order was extremely helpful and made a couple of polite, helpful suggestions (corrections:rolleyes: ) to my order. Got the stuff pronto (like 2 days from Tampa (them) to Atlanta area (me). I will shop with them again.

I did business with them after my dealing with Seattle and they were more helpful! Check out : Noah Lampert if you need a certain color Silnylon $2.75 a yd min order 10 yds( tentmaking) . http://www.noahlamport.com/

I would also check Walmart - $1 a yd shelf for teaching yourself how to sew. Also they have ripstop for sleeping, quilt or Bivy bag on that table once in awhile.
