Socks the wonder dog and I were there today, though only passing through. Two nice fairly small shelters. The location is really nice, one of my favorites of any shelter in PA. I don't think Toms Run gets a lot of use because the Ironmasters Hostel is just 2-3 miles away in Pine Grove Furnace.

It is a very nice location. Lots of places to tent or hammock. Resident black snake keeps the rodents away. One of the nastiest privies on the AT. Nice spring close by. Situated for a nice, easy stroll into pine grove furnace.

Nothing spectacular. A little worn down. Much of the area is signed off for reforesting, so the tent sites are spare. Looks like it might be buggy, but I don't really know as I slept in the tent that night.

Had three thru-hikers in various stages of the triple crown. Two had done the PCT and were now on leg two. The other had done the PCT and the CDT and was on his last leg.

The privey is indeed pretty bad. I opted for the woods here. The spring is nearby next to an old stone chimney. It was flowing on June 27th, but looked on it's way to drying up soon.
