In your opinion, is it possible/feasible for do-it-yourselfers to make it lighter with some creative engineering? Thanks in advance.

Maybe a little bit, but probably not much. The only thing I can think of to shave weight is drilling holes in the handle, pot holder, and the base of the stove. Drilling anywhere else would compromise the airflow. That might net an ounce or two, at the most. I think what would be necessary to lighten it up would be higher gauge metal. It's a solid stove, so you could probably afford to use thinner metal.
