I have 3 days to do this section. What is your experiences with this section?
Thanks

All depends on your pace. It would take me 4 days if I was just starting out. Someone in great shape could cover the miles in 3 without too much strain.

I did Springer (Forest Service Road #42 near top of Springer) to Neels Gap in a leisurely three and a half days, getting into shelters early afternoon each day. That was roughly 8 miles to Hawk Mtn Shelter, 8 miles to Gooch Mtn Shelter, 12 miles to Woods Hole Shelter, and 4 miles out. My trip report is in my trip report forum here on WhiteBlaze.
I did ASP to Springer (i.e., the "Approach Trail") on a separate occasion in under a day.
So, I'm calling ASP-to-Neels Gap a leisurely four-day hike. Now that I know what I'm doing, I could do Springer-to-Neels Gap in two long days, if that helps at all.

We get that question a lot on the GATC info request email. I generally say that its a 3-4 day hike and to plan on 4, YMMV.

My 3 hiking partners and I did Amicalola Lodge to Neels Gap in 3 easy 12-mile days, overnighting at Hickory Flatts Cemetary and the summit of Ramrock Mountain just south of Woody Gap.

Yea...How Many Days?
3 twelve mile days....there about....arrive late 3d day. That's from Springer Summit, not from Amicolola. KZ@
I just finished this section this past weekend with a 60 year old guy that is just getting on the trail after 20 years away from hiking. We did it in 3.5 days easy. We did around 12 mile days. We could have finished up in 3 days but I think it would have been pushing it for my friend. The last day we did the 4 miles up and over Blood Mountain in a driving rain. It was a great hike.

I did it last month. Started at ASP, got to Neel's in 4 pretty easy days, but I hadn't gotten my trail legs yet. If you have your trail legs, or if you start at Springer, you can do it in three. In my opinion, the big climbs are the Approach trail and Sassafrass (though Sassafrass isn't terribly bad). Get past those, and you got it licked.
I would enjoy it much more if I had four days. But it can be done in 3.
you can also get off the trail at woody gap, about 10mi short of neel gap. easy hitch to neel gap from there.
11-15 hrs of hiking from springer. 14-19 hrs from ASP.
