I noticed that Jack had some nice things to say about Williamstown, MA in his list of resupply points.

Just wanted to add that the town has couple of art museums

I've never been to the one at Williams College but the very nearby Clark Institute Museum has a wonderful collection of French Impressionist paintings. Really nice. (They also have a picture of a woman riding a horse up the mountains in the Whites by Winslow Homer, BTW).

I know that most hikers probably aren't in culture-vulture mode when out on a long hike, but if you are in the right frame of mind, the Clark Institute is a great place. Made an impression on me after a short hike, anyway.

Just heard that the Pizza Hut in Williamstown (or maybe it's North Adams, it's east of the trail on Rt. 2) is closed.

Yes, but the Friendly a little further (right), next to the Grocery Store is open.

Williamstown is one of the cool connect points on the trail. It's a short ride on a bus from New York. It's also a great place to leap frog to if you want to do Vermont New Hampshire and Maine. It actually is the border of Vermont and Mass. It's also the start of the Long Trail.

On my through hike I was asked at Harpers Ferry to flip flop because I got there after the 15 0f July. Any hiker that arrives in Harpers after the 15 of july will be presented this option.
I decided to take there advice but instead of flipping I decided to do the hard stuff Vermont- Maine. To do this I commenced my hike at Williamstown.I then went back and finished Williamstown to Harpers later that hike.

They have a great summer music festival and it's okay to stay at the outfitters( Mountain Goat) while you are there at no charge. The town and famous college are worth a visit.
