Hi all!

Are there any places near the PA 501 (near Pine Grove -- the town) trail crossing that i can leave my car for 2 nights?

Any thoughts, concerns, or ideas would be of great help!

:sun Be well and hike on.

There is ample parking at the 501 shelter. Stayed there last year while doing a section hik--had my car parked there. Good luck with the PA rocks.

When I sectioned thru the 501 shelter in 2001 the pizza delivery boy "Dusty" told me that his car was vandalized there in that lot and his stereo removed while he was delivering a pizza at the 501 shelter.

Try to get in touch with the club that maintains that portion of the trail.

Hope this helps.

I used WB member PAmoneypit to shuttle me there last year. I ended up parking on their property, located about 3/4 mile away.

There's plenty of parking right where the AT crosses Route 501, and it's all easily visible from the road, which is fairly busy. I've heard isolated reports of vandalism, but I'd feel comfortable leaving my car there overnight.

If you talk to the care taker of the 501 shelter he might let you park the car at his house for a day or two. He lives right next to the shelter. The shelter used to be an old work shop and he made into a shelter for hikers. Not sure though you would have to talk to him. I was thru here in the colder season and met the care taker who is a friendly man. Good luck and Happy trails. ~GB

As I recall, he sold ice cream and soda too and allowed local phone calls at no charge..

I have and will PM you the phone number of George and Joan Schollenberger who are the resident caretakers of the 501 Shelter maintained by BMECC. They are the best source of information regarding information on parking at PA 501.
