I know that we have discussed the above or similar socks in the past with mixed reviews by only a few of the people who really have used them, so since I had purchased them I thought I would give them a shot.

When: February 28, March 1st & March 2nd

Place: Approach trail, Springer & Hightower

How: Used with sock liners and NB 804's

Temp rates: 37-62 degrees, light wind and constant light rain

I noticed that with the liners, they were very confortable and my feet stayed dry using the sock liners. Coupled with mini-gaiters I used them for three small fording opportunities between Springer and Hawk Mountain shelter and although my NB 804's got wet and dryed quickly, my feet stayed dry, but these were very small crossings.

I did notice that my feet would start to warm up at around 7-8 miles of continuous hiking but would probably do that in any shoe/boot. I was pleased and will use them again on March 15th, but wonder how they will perform when tempertures stay above 60 degrees?

Regardless, I found that they keep my feet very warm in the bag at night and will carry them (3.8oz) for that purpose alone! (Great solution to one of my problems!)

I bought the Seal Skinz socks to use in the Teva Wraptors, I have NEVER had a blister hiking but the one time I tried the Wraptors on the Big Bald section I got rubbed raw (not really a blister though) on the down to Spivey Gap...do you think the Seal Skinz would prevent that.....I did love the Wraptors on the ups, felt like I was flying, and even on the downs felt sure-footed and never stubbed a toe...but because of the 'blister/rawing' I went back to boots but this time lighter with the LLBean Crestas????

I also considered going the wraptor/seal skin route, but I'm worried about my feet not breatheing in the sealskins, and blisters when I don't wear a sock. Not having fabric all the way around also creates alot of stress at the strap points, and I'm nervous about a strap busting.

Since I have never tried these before, I questioned some other hikers using trailrunners and they said the secret is to use sock liners or cheap nylon socks under the seal skinz socks. I had read this before and I did that and was very comfortable for three days of hiking and will use them until they prove otherwise. My worry is when the temps stay above the 62 degrees high I encountered. I won't worry about my feet being cold and wet at that time and use just liners. I think both of you could try just liners & sealskinz and remove the sealskinz if your feet get hot. The liner/nylon socks should wick the moisture from your feet to prevent blisters and rubbing.
