Rain Man

This was just posted yesterday to GATC members by Gary Monk, Trails Supervisor, GATC. I think they'd be happy for it to be shared on WhiteBlaze.net. As I hike along, I really appreciate both "nature" AND all the work done by trail clubs, crews, and volunteers to make it possible! Thank you, GATC!
"The Georgia Appalachian Trail Club is pleased to announce that the Coon Den Ridge relocation of the Appalachian Trail is complete. Actual work on this relocation commenced in May 2005 with the Konnarock crew. Three club work trips during the year continued the effort. Konnarock returned May 11 through 20 to do some heavy and complex rock work. On May 20 the GATC returned with 25 volunteers and together with Konnarock the project was completed. GATC President Herb Daniel and District Leaders Larry Routt and Wes Bartlett officially opened the new section to the applause of trail workers and hikers who had gathered for the event. Wes, who just returned from a year of duty in Iraq with the 48th Infantry Brigade of the Georgia National Guard, also presented the club with a U.S. flag that had flown over the unit while in the combat zone. The first blaze on the new section was painted by long-time Konnarock volunteer, Keith Brown."
"The relocation moved the trail away from an extremely steep area that made maintenance difficult in dry conditions and impossible in wet ones. The new trail offers some spectacular views of Brasstown Bald, the highest mountain in Georgia."
