How does silnylon hold up to abrasions?
I'm trying to make a light wieght bicycle pannier. But on a bicycle you can travel 40+ mph downhill or 12-20 mph on flat terrain depending on the wind. If I fell or the pannier came off the rack at these speeds what are the chances of the pack shredding?

It's slippery but somewhat thin. I wouldn't expect it to hold that well if you hit the pavement. I would use something thicker. It's a bit expensive to rip.
I've got some sil nylon stuff sacks. They are fine as long as they are in my backpack. However, easy to puncture otherwise because the material is so thin.
I suspect that if you scrape them up against anything they will puncture. But I like your idea about lightening up bike touring gear.

Yep - I suspect silnylon will survive exactly zero spills on pavement.

My motorcycle riding suit is 1000 denier cordura...many are 500 denier....at that level the survival of the bag goes up...not much weight difference from traditional pack cloth...might want to check some out... Believe OWF carries some.

I have to agree with the above posts. In my experience, it's done well with "low speed" abrasion while hiking and packing, but I wouldn't trust it at the speeds you're talking about.
