Well for Spring Break I am going hiking (imagine that). I am going from Fox Creek, VA to Carvers Gap TN....so I will be going over Mtn Rogers, Grayson Highlands, the Roan mtn area etc...
I am going to sleep in my hammock with my Marmot Trails bag inside of my Marmot Arroyo bag and a silk liner. Will also have my zrest. When I get back I will let y'all know how this combo did in the cold weather, and whether or not i had to revert to the "bivy hammock".

I think you'll be fine. I used the Hennessey Hammock from DWG through Katahdin and found as long as I had a thermarest underneath I was fine. Good luck & have fun!

I think I would probably go with a different pad than the Z-rest but not having tried a Z-rest in my hammock I can't really say. Myself I would use a Thermarest for this time of the year and possibly a thick Thermarest (LE) if I thought it was going to get down to 20 or lower. If the temps stay above 40 the Z rest probably would be OK - I use one of those blue pads from walmart when the temps are 40 and above - the blue pad is probably about the same as the Zrest.

actually, I am thinking of bringing my old USMC issue mat as well as the z-rest...both of my thermarests are at momma's house...why in the hell do I have so much gear...I should sell some of it.
I tried double bagging in a hammock and found it kind of a chore to get in and out and settled inside the hammock. With your 2 bags and and liner, sounds even worse. Have you tried this? Personally, I'd go for 2 pads. The extra bottom insulation could be critical. A single Z-rest isn't alot of insulation.

Nope haven't tried it yet, but I have never had any trouble getting in and out of my liner in my bag in my hammock, and a zrest kept me warm in it the whole time I had it. We'll see what happens.....
