Has anyone tried the Mountain Laurel Designs Hammock Tarp? It looks pretty good and is plenty large enough to hang out underneath of. Plus, it is very light if you get it in the spinntex.

Any opinions? I'm looking to purchase one that is slightly larger the my current tarp and this one looked like a good deal.

Is this the one you mean? 5 oz? Wow, that's light.

I asked Ron from MLD about this tarp...here's the response I got:

...I'm so far in backorders wright now that I don't have time to update the site or proceed with much protoyping.

It will be made of a light but quite tough spectra and mylar fabric at .6 oz/ sq/yd finished weight material. Maybe it will be up in a couple months....

Sounds like a great addition to my pack if he can get caught up on backorders. Maybe I will order one this fall and hope he has caught up.

I am curious how the tarp is shaped, as a 5'x7' square tarp does not create even close to an 11.5' ridgeline.

I was wondering the same thing. To add to that...I don't know of any material that can have an 11.5" ridgeline with 6' sides that only weighs 5oz.
