View Full Version : hammock with quilt
I was wondering what you guys use under yourselves when you use a sleeping bag as a quilt or when using a regular quilt. i know about the underquilt for on the outside under hammock material. but do you just lay on the hammock material inside against bare skin(summer) or in long johns (winter). i just bought a western mounteering ultra light 20 degree bag hoping to use a quilt when temp allows it , man those mummy bags feel so constricting i feel like a sardine in that bag!! but it sure is light and warm.any feed back would be helpful. i have the hh ultra light with stock fly.

I just lay on the hammock fabric, but I always have at least a T-shirt on, with long johns in the winter.
Ditto JustJeff - if the hammock fabric is uncomfortable to your bare skin. I use silks except in hot weather. You have encountered one of the reasons to use a quilt.
I agree with the others. I use a Nunatak Arc Ghost so there is no back. I like this bag since you can wrap it around you when it is really cold so you do trap in some of the heat.
underquilt under hammock, me on top (shorts and t shirt in summer, long johns in winter), WM Caribou spread like a quilt on top of me. if the temp drops under 50, i crawl inside the bag to eliminate the "rolling over and getting a blast of cold air" problem.
on a side note, if you want more room, the WM alpinlite is just a wider Ultralite... weighs a little more though... pick your poison...
