Howdy - I created my own hammock a little while ago using Risk's 'quarterweight design' which uses a bug net sewed in on one side of the hammock that pulls over you and is weighed down by two quarters sewed in to the other end. Problem is: the bug net pulls over me fine, but the part where it hangs over the side of the hammock is too loose - bugs get through there and then I've got a mosquito party in my hammock. Any tips for securing the netting? I've thought about using velcro/buttons/ect but it seems like the bug net would secure in different places depending on how the hammock was hung.

here's a pic of the hammock with my grandfather who helped me testhop it

A bit of shockcord might do the trick and would accomodate for different hangs. If you put on a structural ridgeline it would hang the same every time, though.

i made a similar one for my daughter, but sewed the hanging edge of the bug net up on itself, making a sort of "gutter" about 5" deep/wide. it's tacked with a stitch only about every foot or so. i can then put sticks or small rocks along the edge in several places, weighting it down a little better, and in more places, pulling it snug against the side of the hammock all along its edge.

once she's in for the night, i make sure it's sealed, and have used small bungi cords on the head and foot end, to ensure it stays closed there. thus far, no bites a

i have no idea what's up with my 'return' button...

i meant 'no bites at night.'

Hrm...you could probably flop it over, then roll the bugnet under at the ends and secure it with some shockcord. That would probably keep the bugnet snug most of the way down.

just got thinking again... my daughter's hammock is two layers of silnylon, so the underpad slips between them... if yours is the same, maybe you could tuck the net in between the two layers...
