View Full Version : Aghhhh.... Bees in the hammock
Here is a new one for me. I decided that i would try out a hammock so I bought a HH and strung it up in my back yard. I used for two nights and played with a few options of pads, sleeping bag and quilt and found it fairly comfortable. I left it up for a few days because i wanted to use it in a storm to see how the Hennesey stock rain fly would fair in a good storm. unfortunitly I didn't seal up the hammock and a pair of big (and apparently very angry) bees got it side.
So today we had a good storm so I run out and hop into the hammock, seal it up and get set to enjoy the storm. I did quite a dance trying to stay away from those bees and get back out..i didn;t make it..two stings to show for it. Where is my pemitherin when I need it. I am going to coat the hammock so any critters that get in there in the future expire before I get in with them.

Man, that's a new one. Sucks...I'll have to keep an eye out when I leave mine unoccupied from now on. Thanks for the heads up.

Talk about being the extreme....not a fun time for your first few days in a hammock.
I always worry about the centipedes dropping down out of the trees or crawing along the support ropes.
Never thought about them or bees or any other flying creature entering from the bottom.
Just goes to tell ya...even the critters have good taste :D

The velcro is on the slit to keep critters out while you are not in it....Alternatively. if you throw a couple pounds of gear in it that will also effectively close the slit while you are not in it.

I once set up after dark and came to find out in the morning that I had invaded Bee Land:eek:
I was so worried that mosquitos would get into my hammock on my last hike that I made sure I closed the opening after each time I got out.
