I have a copy of the David Brill book "As fas as the eye can see" which is in pretty good shape and I would like to trade it for another book written about an AT (Or PCT/CDT) thru hike...I prefer more day to day accounts of the hikes in the style Eric Ryback and Ed Garvey used as opposed to books where the author gets all poetic or philosophical..If anyone has a book they think fits the style I like and would like to do a straight up trade send me a message...We would need only pay the Media Mail rate to get a fresh book to read (The post office has a special rate for shipping books which is no more than $1.60 or so even coast to coast)

I'm not home to make any trades but there's a good book about the CDT by a guy named Stephen Pern from the UK. I think it's more like what you are looking for. AT books are a dime a dozen and more about pain and suffering than being "here and now"
I too hiked in '77. i wonder if we met? I wasn't Fiddlehead than though. Didn't get that name til '89. I was just Glen and hiking with a girl named Louann.

Yes I can relate to that..I`m not sure when "trail names" became the norm but I didn`t have one either back then..I met a number of people on the trail and can recall a few couples or single gals...My description matches 80% of hikers back then so it may not ring any bells..There`s a photo of me in the faces section that was taken a few months after my hike..I had a green Kelty Tioga (Who didn`t?..LOL)..Red Camp 7 down bag...Left Springer in mid April

I`ve found that out...I think that may be because the main reasoning of a lot of modern hikers is the Survivor type personal and physical challenge..Most books are to people oriented also..The book I`m looking to trade was reccommended to me as being they style I like but it`s like 90% about the authors relationships with other hikers and their inter-personal interaction...I`m looking more for a Garveyish "Tuesday May 3rd. Hiked from Rocky Run shelter to Gathland State Park and had lunch near the monument to Civil War News Correspondants. Continued along South Mountain to Weaverton Cliffs...Etc"..With people and some side events mixed in..In that manner I can actually picture the trail and hike the hike with him in my mind and live his hike

We also started mid April. So i imagine we've met but then, my memory doesn't do very well to go back that far. Do you go to the gatherings in OCt? I usually do although i'm not sure this year as it's a different weekend and i may have to work. HOpe to meet you someday and reminiss. (sp?)
