Was in Academy Sports in the fittness department and noticed their exercise mats. Has anyone ever tried one of the neoprene mats. I found a 24 x 72 for $7? About 1/4 inch thick and felt light. No scales to weigh it. It felt as if it would be comfortable and more flexible than a foam pad.

I've seen the Yoga mats in Target and thought about trying one of them for the reasons your mention, but at $20 a pop I just couldn't do it. I might try for $7 though.

I thought about using my Yoga mat but when I picked it up I realised that it was at least twice as heavy as a camping mat.

This particular mat is not a Yoga mat. They have the Yoga mats and they are rubber, much heavier. This mat is neoprene like wet suits are made of. I was not able to weigh it but it felt less tham a pound. I may get one just to see. Only $7.00 and I have wasted a lot more than that before.

The ones at Target were probably not real Yoga mats but they were some kind of exercise mat made out of a neoprene material and less that 1/4 inch thick. But anyway, still too expensive for this idea. Try the $7 mat and let us know how it works.

Well, I purchased one. It weighs 12.2 oz. It is 24" x 60". It is soft and rolls up smaller than my Thermarest and my blue foam pads. It is too hot here in Alabama to check out it's insulation value but I believe it will be a good summer pad for the 50 and 60 degree nights.
