I love my Atmos 50. It's a great & solid pack. Osprey always delivers, in my opinion. The only downside is the odd curve that the inside of the pack has, because of the support system. I work around it though, & it's not caused that big of an issue. Other than that, it's a super pack,, small & comfortable, w/ all the right pockets, etc.

I have limited experience with other packs to compare to but I have an Atmos 50 that I will be using on my SOBO hike starting July 19th (start date got moved back a couple of weeks for those of you paying attention). During my practice hikes over the past couple of months I've been very happy with it. I feel hardly any pressure on my shoulders, instead having the weight mostly on the hips, and the mesh back allows a nice cooling breeze to flow. Packing is a bit different because of the previously mentioned "hump" in the interior of the pack but I don't find it to be too much of an issue to stuff soft items down to the bottom. The size seems just about right for myself to pack everything I really need without having extra room to overpack (except for the travel mandolin which fits neatly in the outside "shovel" pocket.

I've had mine for over a year. Best pack I have ever owned. My wife just got the Aurora 50, which is the female version of the Atmos.

I love the coolness of the mesh back panel that I am in the process of deciding on either a Atmos 25 or Stratos 25 as my new day pack. First I need to figure out the difference between the two....................

I own an Aether 70 and it is the most comfortable pack I have ever owned. Opsrey rocks.

How does the Atmos 50 compare to the Aether 60. I am in the market for a pack right now, and I have narrowed it down to these two. I keep hemming and hawing over the decision. I'll decide on one pack, and then a couple days later change my mind.

Most of my hikes will be weekend hikes, with about a week being the longest (I can't fit an AT through-hike in for 20 years or so :( ), so I figure the Atmos 50 would be large enough. I like the hipbelt pockets on the Atmos, but I am worried that the description says something about the hydration pocket being located in the backpanel (the picture on the osprey site shows the side though, does that mean there are two?). Geez, even as write this, I decide on the Atmos 50, but I know that will probably change tomorrow.

Is there anything other than personal preference (ie: which of the two fits better), that puts one over the other.

I will be hopefully be trying both of them on in the near future, as soon as I can find an outfitter that sells them in my general area (northeast ohio).

GREAT pack. Not a single issue or complaint with mine. I rarely have the need for that much volume so I don't use it nearly as much as my Jam, but it's always a pleasure to carry. The Airspeed suspension is sweet, you can literally feel the wind on your back. That hollow cavity is kind of wasted volume, but it's worth it.

The cavity isn't a waste. You can air out your dirty laundry! or just carry extra clothing.

You can also carry a water baldder in that cavity. It is a great pack.

I own the Atmos 50 & love it!! I've never owned the Aether 60, but tried it on in the store, & have spoken w/ others who own the Aether 60. The features are a little different. Basically it comes down to how much gear you need to hold. If the volume of your gear would fit in the Atmos 50, then go w/ it!! There is only 1 hydration sleeve in the Atmos 50, but several other places you could actually put it. I don't use the hydration sleeve, because it takes up too much room inside the pack. I use a 50oz platty & simply put it in the side bottle holder pocket, routing the sippy tube up the side & over the shoulder strap.

They both fit great, but I like the design of the Atmos,,,, plus the Atmos has plenty of room for me.

was planning on getting the g-pack this weekend, but tried on the atmos and it felt great... 6 oz more but twice as comfortable. the mesh feels great on the back... looking foward to taking it out.

As an example of how much I love the Atmos design. After having my Atmos 50 for a year I just went out and purchased an Atmos 25 for use as a day pack despite the fact that my day pack was only two years old and did it's job quite well. The Atmos is the perfect balance of weight and functionality.

I think fondly of the pack but it is not perfect. While the pack does have an adequate suspension system for hauling reasonable loads for its capacity, you can definitely feel that the weight is further from you because of the arch. I would not want a larger pack of similiar design. I hoped that the open space on the back would limit the whole wet-back scenario that occurs with other packs. It makes a difference at low exertion, but not when you hiking. I can live with this but the question I would consider before buying one a second time is does the little bit of extra air flow warrant your center of gravity being thrown of just a little bit more than a similiar pack of the same capacity. Also, the aluminum frame the composes the arch adds weight.

I like the pack, but it sure looked a lot sexier on rack in the store than it does in actual use.

I got the atmos 25 and yes it does fit like a glove, but I'm not sure I'd use the 50 because with bigger loads the shoulder straps would be uncomfortable.

I could go on adnauseam about how great this pack is. I love mine. Have about twenty plus days with one and it rocks. The stretchy material on the outside kind of freeks me out as far as durability. But has been bushwacking with it with no ill efects. If it fits buy one and I think you will be very happy. Peace. J.J.B.

It's a good pack... I've been a diehard external frame man until I tried one on. Carries up to 30 pounds comfortably. It might be a little uncomfortable over that weight. I havn't had a problem with the arch.

I've carried up to 38 lbs in my Atmos 50 w/ no problems,, no pain,, shoulder straps were fine.
