I'm getting a Golite Hut tarp to use on the PCT next year. Comes in dark green or lightish grey. I remember reading somewhere that certain colors of tarps or rainflys tend to have more condensation. Presumably it's due to a temperature issue with the sun making certain colors warmer or something? If it's light outside I'm hiking, so not sure if it matters, if in fact this is what effects the condensation. I'm thinking light grey because if anything, it will be cooler when used as shade in the desert. Anyone know anything about this?

I used a Lair tarp on the AT (dark green) and had zero problems even in snow and cold, because it's nice and airy. The Hut has a storm flap in front, so it will be a bigger issue.

Tents made of dark colors are hotter than blazes in the summer. The dark green color that Golite uses is very bad in that regard.

We've got both colors (green and light grey) of the Lunar Solo-e tent.

Have never noticed any difference in the amount of condensation (which is minimal to non-existentent) between the two.

We don't stay in the tents once the sun rises so the impact of sunlight on the different colors is something we can't comment on.

I will tell you though that, as common sense would lead one to believe, is that the lighter grey colored tent is "brighter" inside when it is light outside. That goes equally for the light from the moon.
