Let me know what you think of this idea for insulation in the coming cold months in my Hennessy Expedition A-sym:
A Speer Segmented Pad Extender (SPE). A Gossamer Nightlight sleeping pad. 29"x59"x3/4 cut to 20". The remainder of the pad will be cut into inserts for the SPE. Also a Gossamer Thinlight insulation pad to use if needed. 19.5"x59"x1/8
These three items would total around 13.5 ounces.
I would sleep in a fleece mummy liner and use this bag as a quilt: http://www.majorsurplusnsurvival.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=027439&Category_Code=35
I got this idea from NEO who claims it weighs under 3 lbs.

The insulation will be too short for your torso....translates to cold feet and legs....
Neo's bag is all about camo and saving bucks....there are many lighter solutions...

A Jacks R Better Nest underneath will give you more evenly distributed warmth than your system. The SPE is a nice design, but the fact remains you're still using pads, and they aren't as comfortable as the hammock itself --- and the Nest gives you that. True, it weighs 6.5 oz more than your system, but is more comfortable (no clammy feeling like a pad can be) and is more versatile.
A Jacks R Better quilt on top is more versatile than a bag, too. Not to mention there's no zipper to cut, snag, or tear the hammock.
The Weathershield can be used alone, too, on hot nights.
i use a full length military thermarest in my jungle hammock
it has a double bottom.i in sert pad between the 2 layers, the pad stays in place,no slipping
