Hello all

Tomorrow morning I will take the train to Boston and from there to my son's house in Natick. After a day of "conditioning" I will hit the "trailhead" in Hopkinton MA for a 1 day, 26.2 mile "trek" from Hopkinton back to Boston. The "trail" is very historic, having been in use for over 100 years continuously. I hope to manage a pace of something around 7 MPH. This will not be a solo adventure, since close to 20,000 friends will accompany me. Blue or Yellow Blazing is very strongly discouraged (remember Rosie Ruiz!).

Wish me well. Results may be found at: Results (http://www.bostonmarathon.org/BostonMarathon/AthleteTracking.asp)
(bib # 13730)

After a few weeks of recovery from this, I hope to get back to some slow speed (as in 2 MPH) long distance hiking again.

Interesting....by my calcuations a marathoner finishing the Boston Marathon in 3 hours is pushing an 8.6mph pace....7 mph is a serious pace for a "trek"....Good luck....hope you have comfy shoes!

Hello Friends

Well, I have finished the "unabridged version" of my report on the Boston Marathon and it's now up on the web. I guess I couldn't stop the flow of words so I apologize if this looks more like a life's history than a trip report, but it was fun to set it all down.

To keep it on topic, there is a section on how I managed to hike about 1/3 of the AT between two major marathons

There are a few pictures there as well, plus some low-resolution shots. These were proofs for the official race photographer's pictures. When the real prints come, I will replace the low-res with high-res images.

Check it out: Boston "trip" report (http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze2h6gy/papabear/boston2003.html)

Cheers
