You can say a sleeping bag weighs only 24 oz. empty.

You can say a tent weighs only 24 oz empty.

You can say a pack weighs only 24 oz. empty...

But 'only', '24 oz.', and 'stove', just don't belong in the same sentence.

Partinj, are you shopping Wal-mart for stoves because cost is a factor?

You might check out some reviews before you make a purchase.

Also Paul Magnanti ("Mags") Website has a great page on comparison of different stove types including white gas stoves.

Good Luck

Good LuckNice Mags article. Between that and Rock's water purification site, I'm kinda stuck on my computer here.

IIRC, the F442, showed up on our shelves (when I was in retail) around 1991. so that would be at least 15 years.

the 442 was released for sale to the public in 1982 and was followed up by the 442 feather weight in 1990. I did testing and developement for the feather weight for Peak 1. they are not the lightest stoves out there but they are also not very heavy for what they are capable of and they are very reliable. got 530 hours of burn time out of one of the generators while testing.

Good Luck

I have had one of the Peak dual fuel stoves for years. Sturdy, dependable, easy to use (relatively), heavy. Purchased before becoming enlightened (figuatively and literally).

The comments Mags makes about white gas are pretty much right on. One advantage of the dual fuel stoves is the ability to use unleaded auto gas at times (frequent use is not recommended). A few years back, my (then) 8 year old son and I did an overnight trip in southern CA as part of a vacation. I emptied the tank prior to the trip, pumped a little fuel into a fuel bottle at a gas station while filling up the car, then filled up the tank. It worked great. Burned all the fuel off before the return home.

Some of the multi fuel stoves will burn kerosene which is (supposedly) readily available overseas.

Now, I almost always use my homemade stove. The Coleman gets used occasionally if there is a group.

Figure out where, when, and with whom you will be hiking, and choose your stove accordingly.
