View Full Version : Insoles???
My lady friend has some tender feet. Not just conditioning related but arthritis related. She's looking for something to help her. I was thinking insoles might work. I've never tried them so I don't know what's good.
What brand of insoles do you like?
Thanks

I swear by Superfeet. They fixed my Plantar Fasciitis.

I second SUPERFEET! I have never had a blister and no foot problems, either. I wouldn't hike a mile without them.
I don't know that SF work for everyone--but I do think a specialty insole can be of benefit to everyone--they just need to find the right one.

What were you're symptons?
When I 1st started hiking the AT Superfeet killed my feet. It wasn't until I got Spenco's the pain subsided. Since then I have experienced some pain (it never relly went away) and may try Superfeet again.

Color designates the style. What you need for hiking (if you don't get the custom BROWN) is the Green "Trim to Fit". Also ...you get them based on heel width and distance from the heel to the arch ...and NOT on over all length. The "arch" of the SuperFeet needs to strike your foot in the natural arch position or they will be terribly uncomfortable and actually do more harm than good. Once you have the right "size" SuperFeet then you trim the toe end to fit your footwear. You leave about 1/8" from the front edge of the SuperFeet to the inner wall of your footwear.
I went to SuperFeet University several years ago while working at an outfitter and was trained to make the custom SuperFeet.

I didnt get much relief with them. I tried the ones where they custom molded them to my feet but they still felt hard. Those were green. Somewhere I heard they had a blue variety that was softer but I have not Tried them

The Blue variety are thinner and are made for street shoes. They do not have the same support as the Greens ones. But hey ...if they work that's what counts.

Hi Bravo,
How old is your friend? Does she suffer from Rheumatoid arthritis? If she is as young as you, then she likely needs some actual support, rather than just cushioning.
She needs to have a proper foot assesment done to see what the issues are that she has going on. As always, I recomend you find a good C.Ped in your area. www.cpeds.org (http://www.cpeds.org) to find one.

The material used for the custom footbeds is BROWN and is thicker (and a bit softer). It is designed to conform to the foot under a heating process.
SuperFeet are NOT for everyone. If you are relatively flatfooted and have little or no natural arch, SuperFeet can actually cause pretty bad bruising/pain on the undersurface of foot.
SuperFeet are not meant to add padding. They are designed to stabilize the foot/heel so that there is a firm plant and follow through stride without movement of the foot inside the shoe/boot.

Yeah it's Rheumatoid and she's not as young as me. She's 41. She primarily has it in her wrists and hands. Her feet aren't as bad but any extra pain in your feet can't really help hiking. Hell I'm only 24 and sometimes my feet start hurting after a lot of hiking.:)

I also say superfeet. I love my custom-made insoles. Totally worth the price.

I started out with the green super feet, but they were too tough so I switched to the blue casual wear superfeet in Damascus and used them with Montrail Hard Rocks the whole way...

I use green superfeet for hiking and blue for eveyday. I have ortho issues (largest leg muscle is paralyzed on the right side).
Am I the only one that caught this? 24 and 41??? You go dude!!!
As for your lady friend; she followed the old addage "get'm young, and train'm right".
There is an infomertial about some new inserts/footbeds that's supposed to be wonderful. I cannot remember the name but they have them in the CVS drugstore here in WV. Good luck.

Definitely. Even the trim to fit. Go for the extra bucks and get the custom greens. Mine are just starting to wear out after 2+ years of very hard hiking.
the custom superfeet are awesome. I would highly recommend them to anyone
