View Full Version : Pot Cozy???
I've never used a pot cozy. I'm thinking maybe I should. What do you use? Where did you get it? I'm not really that good at making a sandwich so making gear doesn't really work well for me. Thanks for your thoughts.

They're most useful with alcohol stoves. Not quite as necessary if you're cooking with white gas or a Zip stove (for example.)
TinMan (antigravitygear.com) sells them to fit standard pot sizes. Or you can make them yourself, out of pieces of closed cell foam (eg. an old sleeping pad.) Neoprene would work also.

Good to know. I've got a giga stove.

For a pot cozy, reflectix (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.glacierbay.com/refllable.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.glacierbay.com/reflxtest.asp&h=214&w=293&sz=24&hl=en&start=11&tbnid=FXVYBjg9JEBSDM:&tbnh=84&tbnw=115&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dreflectix%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr %3D%26sa%3DN) works well. AGG uses it or something very close to it for theirs. You can assemble the various pieces of reflectix with aluminum duct tape (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.componenthardware.com/component/images/proim_742.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.componenthardware.com/default.aspx%3Fref%3Dpro%26proid%3D742&h=246&w=350&sz=11&hl=en&start=16&tbnid=M7Ei3jffAqMnEM:&tbnh=84&tbnw=120&prev=/images%3Fq%3Daluminum%2Bduct%2Btape%2B%26svnum%3D1 0%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG).
Easy to do.

I bought a roll of Reflectix at the local big box hardware store a few years ago. It costs about $25, and I have enough Reflectix to make pot and bag cozies for myself and all my friends until the end of the freaking universe. Sure, you can buy a pre-made cozy, but the cost of a few cozies pays for the roll and some tape, and then you're set for life.
I carry both a pot and bag cozy. I use my tall 700ml pot to boil water for a freezer bag meal, which then goes into the bag cozy to rehydrate. Then I heat up some more water for coffee or tea, and stick the pot into the pot cozy, where it will stay warm for a long time. This saves me the weight and bulk of an insulated mug.
A five dollar WalMart ccf pad and some paper clips make all the cozyies you need,
cut circles the diameter of your pot and a strip the height and circumference of your pot. Assemble with the large paper clips.
Packs flat.

I bought a pot cozy years ago for my Walmart grease pot. I am still using the same pot, cozy and esbit stove.
Tin Man www.antigravitygear.com does indeed sell these.
I use it every time I cook. It's been smashed, burnt, it's durable.
I am a AGG user also, but as noted, they are easy to make.
Also, you can use almost anything for a cozy if needed. Even an old scrappy wool hat you never wear would work. The point of the cozy is to keep your food hot while it finishes cooking ;)

I would reccomend using a pot cozy.. I used my fleece hat for one for a while, except it got food in it which attracted critters.. Also I used one made of bubble wrap and duct tape. There are lots of ways to make them.

Easy to do.
1) Where to buy small quantity of Reflectix?
2) Weight wise is it similar to ccf?
3) Anyone know of a glue for WalMart's .50" blue ccf?
