I have been informed that as of March 2007 all WalMarts will discontinue the fabric department.
Better go grab up some of that great dollar fabric while I can.
It's already gone from my area. West Central Florida

One of the local stores just went thru a remodel and the fabric section is now gone. Went right to the other store and bought the last bolt of gray ripstop in their bin. Don't wait if you want some.

That sucks!!! I avoid WM as much as possible, but that is one thing I buy there often. There aren't any other places within 30 miles of my home to buy fabric, and there are LOTS of folks around here who quilt and make homemade clothes. There was one locally owned JoAnn fabric in the town about 12 miles from me. Once the superWMs opened in that town and mine, the fabric store folded. WMs have also virtually destroyed our local grocer. He can no longer afford to keep his shelves fully stocked. So now, after hurting local businesses, they're taking away the services they moved in to provide. In addition, anyone notice that they've switched to providing only the most popular brands? Small companies aren't able to even get their products stocked anymore. I could go on and on. Our little Appalachian arts and crafts based town is really getting fed up with the myriad of problem WM has created here.

We are the city, not many mom and pop places left here. There is a Wal-Mart or Target on every other corner, right behind Walgreens and CVS.
I went to Wally World today and bought up all the RS fabric I could find (about $20 worth) and inquired as to the status of the "fabric department..." They told me, its true that the fabrics (not the craft) department will be gone reall quick like. Get what you can for the price!!!

So that's why I haven't seen any new $1 a yard fabric in a while. DAMN!!
