sheet do not work to good the cotton seems to grip and not slide If you are going to make one buy polyester and sew it up all the way on one side and 3/4 on the otherdesign it like mummy sleeping bag. or check REI outlet you can pick one up about what it will cost you to make

I have not used it but River Runner who posts here has. How about trying a nylon bag that you goes over your bag. That might work better to trap in heat. Not exactly what you are looking for, but something to think about.

I had a homemade liner of knitted nylon for years - the material of women's slips and nylon panties. It snagged easily, but was very comfortable and slippery enough not to bind as a cotton sheet would.

I designed the one we sell on our website by laying the micro-fleece over the top of my sleeping bag, and cutting it about the same size (slightly bigger for the sewing) And simply sew it together. HOWever, i only sewed up the zippered part ( of my sleeping bag) half way and left the rest open. That way, it is less zippers/closures to worry about and adds about 10* to any bag. It's easy! Use whatever material you feel right about: silk, polyester, microfleece, 200 weight fleece, cotton, 50/50, whatever, up to you!

You can get some great "silk like" fabrics at Wal-mart. All it consisit of is a rectangle with or without a zipper. I put a small 1/2 zipper in mine but find in the hammock I can get away without it so I may remove it.

The main purpose for me to use a liner is so that on long distance hikes I can take the liner to the laundromat and wash it. Thus I do not get an oil build up or stench in my down bag, which is hard to wash on a hike.

I found a cheap ($15.00) rectangular fleece thing at Oshmans Sports (owned by Sports Authority) that makes a very good liner. It is open on one side with no zipper, doesn't weigh much, and stuffs down pretty small. As for wrapping the outside of your bag with anything to make it warmer, about all you will accomplish is interfering with the breathability of your bag....making it damp, or in the case of the Smokies, making the outside of your bag covered with ice.
