Some pix (http://www.terrapinphoto.com/cpg143/thumbnails.php?album=9) here of this weekend's hike on the MA mid-state trail.
Sat 1/06/07: Started at Rte 119 trailhead, walked south to the shelter at Muddy Pond.. about 6.6 miles. Stayed in tent next to the shelter. Windy, clear night. About 20 minutes of light rain, just before arriving at shelter.
Sun 1/07/07: Walked back from shelter to Rte 119 trailhead. Emptied most of pack into the car -- set for day hiking. Head north up to summit of Watatic and beyond. Looking for northern terminus of trail. Never found it. I figure maybe I was on the Wapac trail instead. In any case, if I had found that *$&%$*^ northern terminus, I'd have walked a lot less on Sunday.
Weather was perfect for hiking. About 50-55 degrees on Saturday, 45-50 on Sunday. This was a trial-run for my new lightweight three-season kit. With 2 days food and 2.5 quarts of water, total weight on my back was about 22 lbs. It felt like nothing. I left sunscreen and DEET at home, carried an extra base layer just in case.
