I've spent no little time searching for a low-profile, ironclad leakproof, lightweight alcohol container that would fit in my Snowpeak Mini-Solo pot (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.backcountrygear.com/images/SnowpeakTitMiniSolo.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.backcountrygear.com/catalog/stovedetail.cfm/SN2300&h=300&w=300&sz=12&hl=en&start=2&tbnid=jVPUeHIg-R3RFM:&tbnh=116&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3DSnowpeak%2BMini-Solo%2B%26ndsp%3D18%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D %26sa%3DN)and still leave room for the rest of my kitchen. I found a few containers with promise but they all inevitably leaked.

So I made one myself.

The all-time champ of non-leaking when it comes to denatured is, of course, the common soda bottle. Never had one fail. Unfortunately even small 8 oz. bottles are tall and take up a lot of space in a Mini-Solo.

But in truth the dependable part of a coke bottle is all in the top when it comes to alcohol storage. The thread and cap is where it's at.

So using the top of a soda bottle, Seal All adhesive (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.hardwarestore.com/media/product/145417_front200.jpg&imgrefurl=http://paint-and-supplies.hardwarestore.com/50-272-all-purpose-glue/seal-all-145417.aspx&h=200&w=200&sz=10&hl=en&start=7&tbnid=YD9qfdtKRXaXfM:&tbnh=104&tbnw=104&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dseal%2Ball%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26l r%3D%26sa%3DG), a few #2x1/4" brass wood screws, and assorted plastic parts, I came up with 10.5 fluid oz. container that fills the bill for me.

Here's the finished product (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=14316&catid=favorites).

Comparison to an 8 oz. bottle (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=14315&catid=favorites).

New container fitted inside a Mini-Solo (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=14314&catid=favorites).

The complete kitchen (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=14313&catid=favorites). 16.7 oz including six-ten days of fuel.

A very compact system (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=14312&catid=favorites).

It's be fairly easy to do with any size pot. You just have to find materials just a shade smaller than the diameter of your pot and have at it.:)

Interesting project ...and congrats for the design. I think it has a lot to do with whether you currently store things in you cookpot.

I keep my stove, drinking cup and spoon inside my cookpot. If I went to your approach I'd still end up having to stash that stuff in a ditty bag and finding room for it in my pack.

I also thought long and hard about alcohol storage before my thru and decided I wanted my fuel readily available and somewhere I could see it. I found some oval shaped plastic flasks that are a bit concave on one side. They fit perfectly in an outside pouch of my pack. They come in different sizes so depending on the length of my hike/re-supply I carry either the 10oz or 16oz size. They weight less than 2oz empty.

That said ...I applaud you for taking the bull by the horns and creating something that works for you. That's what it's all about !!

FWIW, your local pharmacist may be happy to supply small plastic containers (perfect for carrying alcohol) in the 4 to 10 oz. range. Plus oodles to choose from here (http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/default.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1).

Is that an aluminum bottle? AFAIK alcohol tends to corrode aluminum bottles unless they are coated on the inside. Aluminum bottles are fine however for white gas.

HOI is correct. Alcohol reacts with aluminum and will begin dissolving it. Soon the aluminum container develops a hole and alcohol leaks out. Store it in something else.
