I've read alot about hammock camping and I'd like to look into it for a 2008 thru. However, I backpack with my fiance and I haven't found any infomation about hammocking (is "hammocking" even a word?!) with two people. Not to be incredibly crude, but by 2008 we'll be newlyweds. (That is, separate hammocks are not an option.)

So, is hammocking really even an option? Anyone tried this? Suggestions? Previous threads I haven't found?

Thanks!

I don't think anyone sells a double hammock. I figure the best way to find out if it will work is to buy some material, and make one yourself. who knows, maybe it will work. I can't imagine it could be all that comfortable for sleeping however.

Bunny, congrats on your coming marriage. The only hammocks I've seen that might be OK for two are extemely wide South American designs. Those tend to be far too heavy for backpacking.

I suggest you two tent and get a couple of extra comfy air pads (like Big Agnes insulated Air Core) as you newlyweds just might want to do a bit more than sleep in your tent. Doing that sort of thing in a hammock would likely get you killed.

clip.. Doing that sort of thing in a hammock would likely get you killed.

or draw a crowd! ;)

there was a thread about this at the yahoo hammocking group in July 2005 - one couple reported using a Hennessey Safari.....for sleeping, I think! :D

I've done a fair share of hammocking, albeit in the warmer weather, and I have a hard time visualizing 2 people trying to get comfortable in the same sling ...not to mention the rukkus that would be caused if one or the other had to answer nature's call in the middle of the night.

Maybe it's just me ...but a hammock for 2 seems like it would be plagued with problems.

We've tried sleeping in an ENO 2 person with poor results. I'd take a tarptent and some comfy mats I were in your shoes. I love my hammock, but when both of us are coming it stays home.

yes, hammocking is a word, at least on this and other forums!

congrats on the upcoming wedding. however, i can't imagine wanting to lay down that close to anyone after days, weeks, or months of hiking with them. i gotta agree with 'slogger... a hammock for two would be trouble.

two hammocks is nice though... tie the heads to the same tree and you can still talk and share a large tarp. i've done that while camping with a partner.

but it sounds like a tarp or tent might be the best solution if you 'must' sleep together.

Hammocking would probably not be the best option for you newlyweds. My wife and I are going to use seperate hammocks this year for the first time, we've been together for 7 years, we're getting older, and hammock sleeping is just sooooo much better for my back.

Congrats on the impending nuptiuals, and I hope you guys have a blast!
