I used mason line to wrap handles with 1/4 nylon turks heads on the top and bottom of the handle section. The wrapping helps keeps hands warm and dry and prevents blisters. Unwrapped bamboo will cause issues. For tips I bought cane tips from the drug store. I can't wear them out.

I wrapped my bamboo with 5/32" rope I found at Lowe's. They have alot of bright colors and the size was perfect for the pole, 1/4" rope is too big. 50' was enough for several poles.

Advice for bamboo:
When you cut it, coat the cut ends with Elmer's glue or shellac to keep it from drying too fast, then put it in a dry place for a few weeks. That will reduce or eliminate the splitting that robbs cane of its strength.

Duct tape and strapping tape also make effective wraps.

I've also heard of someone using Golf club handles on cane poles before

I used a bambo ski pole for a hiking stick for a long time. Eventually it fractured, but only because it got crushed in the garage. Lightweight and different from all those high-end walking sticks. Not as strong as my fiberglass sticks, but more original looking.

Ok cool. I cut some good sturdy bamboo today and sealed it off at both ends with Shoe Goo and wrapped duct tape on the top for a grip. When I hike, I wear my biking gloves with the fingers cut out to prevent blisters. Thanks for the advice, they look awesome. Gonna paint them before my hike to make em more festive.:sun
