Search for posts by "Patrick", same guy from kickassquilts. He posted something here a long time ago about changing a TNF sleeping bag into an underquilt. This was the start of his business idea.
Good luck though. He and others say it's here, but I have not seen it yet. Post a link when you find it.
I have been thinking about doing this to a cheap sleeping bag for river trips for my dad to use. Weight and bulk are not a big deal.
My thinking was that I will trim it to 48" wide to a few inches longer than I am tall. I would leave about 3 or 4 inches for seams, where you left the nylon shell but removed the insulation. Then roll the top and bottom to cover the ends and form a channel to put a drawcord. The sides would just be rolled to cover the insulation. On the end seam make sure that one of the sems goes through the insulation to help hold it in place. If not, you may have to add quilt loops to hold the insulation from moving around. A cheap bag might not have anything other than the edges holding the insulation from moving around. Add some tieouts to each corner. Use either a cheap biner or clip then some stretchable shock cord to attach the underquilt to the hammock.
Basically a reverse engineering of the the jacks quilts and with the KAQ directions thrown in.
