View Full Version : WTB: large silnylon tarp
Hi all,
I have a budget of about $50 or so, and am looking for a gently used 10x10 or 10x12 silnylon tarp. 8x10 will likely be too small for what we'd need. Color not important, but weight is ;-)
Shoot me a line at xrayrat AT hotmail DOT com if you can help us out.
Happy hiking,
peeb
This might fit the bill. Not sure on the weight; I have one going to arrive tomorrow. So I could get back with the weight after I get it.

Here is another possibility.

I always had good customer service with the Guide. Both are within your budget.
Check the Campmore site. I got a big tarp (don't recall the size) for about 50/60$ and it is made of green silnylon. It was the lightest weight per sq yard available.

Thanks for the suggestions! I suspect we'll have to spring for the Campmor route if we can't find a used one.

If you can't afford the silnylon check out the coated nylon tarps in campmor. A tarp 10 x 10 is about 14 0z. heavier than sil but alot cheaper. Try to stick to square as they are alot easier to to set up in various configurations than a rectangle. The rectangle can be used successfully, it just takes alittle more time learning set-ups.
:sun Good luck and have fun! Tarps are great once you learn all of the ins and outs of set-up.

ps. :-? a light tarp does not save you any weight if you use line that weighs too much!

Almost forgot, I carried a 16' x 20' nylon in 1990 and was one of the lightest shelters on the trail back then. It was known as Club Geek and would sleep 7 with gear inside.

We have the 10 x 12 Campmor sil-nylon tarp -- best $84 I ever spent on gear.
